The Go is the entry adapter: the same app, the same codes, on a board that speaks only the modern protocol. It is a limited run rather than a continuing model, so read the year range below before you buy one.

Read this before you buy
The Go works on model year 2008 and newer US cars and light trucks, and nothing older. It speaks CAN only, which is the protocol every 2008-and-newer vehicle uses. It cannot talk to the older protocols: 1996 to 2007 Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, VW, BMW, Chrysler and the rest will not connect, and neither will motorcycles or powersports machines. If your vehicle is older than 2008, the M1 is the one you want. The Go also needs the DriveDecode app: it is an adapter, not a standalone reader with its own screen.
- 1996 to 2007 Ford: F-150, Explorer, Focus, Mustang and the rest
- 1996 to 2007 GM: Silverado, Tahoe, Impala and the rest
- Most Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Subaru through about 2007, VW and Audi through 2007, BMW E46 and E39, Mercedes W203, and Hyundai and Kia through about 2007
- Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge of that era
- Motorcycles and powersports machines, including current ones
None of these are a soft limit or a firmware update away. The board has no circuitry for the protocols those vehicles use, so the app will not find the car at all. The M1 reads every one of them.
What it reads, and what it does not
A DriveDecode adapter reads engine and emissions systems: the powertrain and emissions codes the OBD-II standard requires on every US vehicle it covers. It does not read ABS, airbag (SRS), TPMS or transmission-specific manufacturer codes. Those need make-specific decoding that generic OBD-II hardware cannot do.

Getting started
- Check that your vehicle is a 2008 model year or newer.
- Install DriveDecode on your phone.
- Plug the Go into the OBD-II port, usually under the dash on the driver's side.
- Turn the ignition to on. The engine does not need to be running.
- Enter the activation code from the card in the box, then pair and scan.
Go or M1?
One question decides it: how old is the car. If everything you plan to scan was built in 2008 or later, the Go does the same job with the same app. If anything in the driveway is older than that, or has two wheels, buy the M1 instead.
