DriveDecode M1 manual

Setting up the M1, reading what your car reports, and what every screen in the app is for. Start at chapter one with the adapter in your hand, or jump to the part you need.

  1. Chapter 1

What the M1 is, and what comes with it

What is in the box, what you need to use it, and the one limit worth knowing before you plug anything in.

  2. Chapter 2

Installing the app and your first run

Getting DriveDecode onto your phone, the three ways to start, and how to look around the whole app before you own an adapter.

  3. Chapter 3

    Plugging in and connecting

Finding the diagnostic port, getting the adapter to show up, and what each step of the connection is actually doing.

  4. Chapter 4

The Home screen and your vehicle

What the app shows the moment it connects, what the status card means, and where your VIN, engine details and safety recalls live.

  5. Chapter 5

    Reading trouble codes

Confirmed, pending and permanent codes are three different things. What the Codes tab shows, and why the warning light and the code list disagree.

  6. Chapter 6

    What a code tells you

Opening one trouble code: the plain English meaning, the conditions when it set, the ranked causes and where to start checking.

  7. Chapter 7

    Clearing codes

What clearing actually does, what it does not do, and why clearing codes the day before an emissions test guarantees a fail.

  8. Chapter 8

    Readiness monitors and emissions tests

Why a car with no warning light can still fail an emissions test, and how to check whether yours is ready before you drive to the station.

  9. Chapter 9

    Live data

Watching your engine sensors in real time: the gauge groups, the three views, every reading your car publishes, and why one gauge stays blank.

  10. Chapter 10

The battery, fuel trim and acceleration checks

Three checks built around one question each: is the charging system healthy, is the fuel mixture drifting, and how quick is the car.

  11. Chapter 11

    Reports

Turning a scan into a PDF or a spreadsheet you can print, share or email, so your mechanic sees what you saw.

  12. Chapter 12

    Accounts and DriveDecode Pro

What is free forever, what Pro adds, how to redeem the months that came with your adapter, and signing in on a PC.

  13. Chapter 13

    Troubleshooting

Every message the app can show you when something goes wrong, what it actually means, and what to do about it.

What the M1 reads, and what it does not

A DriveDecode adapter reads engine and emissions systems: the powertrain and emissions codes the OBD-II standard requires on every US vehicle it covers. It does not read ABS, airbag (SRS), TPMS or transmission-specific manufacturer codes. Those need make-specific decoding that generic OBD-II hardware cannot do.
