Chapter 11 of 13
Reports
Turning a scan into a PDF or a spreadsheet you can print, share or email, so your mechanic sees what you saw.
Walking into a workshop with a printout changes the conversation. It also gives you a record of what the car said before anyone touched it, which is worth having.
What can be reported
Five screens produce a report, each with a printer icon at the top: a full code scan, a single code, a readiness check, a battery check and a fuel trim check.
If there is nothing to report the icon is inactive and says so.
Where it can go
Tapping the printer icon offers five destinations.
Preview renders the report on screen so you can see it before doing anything with it. Print and share are available from there too.
Print goes to any AirPrint or wireless printer.
Share or email PDF hands the file to your phone’s usual share sheet: mail, messages, files, whatever you use.
Email report sends it for you, from our servers, so you do not need a mail app configured
on the device. It arrives from [email protected]. This one needs you to be signed in,
because the app has to know where to send it from.
Share or email CSV exports the same data as a spreadsheet, which opens in Excel or Sheets. Use this if you want to chart something or keep a history.
What is in a scan report
Your vehicle details, every code found with its grouping, what each one means, and the freeze frame where one exists. It is the screen you were looking at, laid out to be read on paper.
Reports from sample data
Reports exported while in sample data mode are marked as sample data. A simulated scan cannot be mistaken for a real one later, which matters if you were showing someone how the app works and the file stayed in your downloads folder.
What to do next
Chapter twelve covers accounts, what is free, and the one thing that is not.
